Ebenezer Allen was a brave subaltern officer with Colonel Allen at the capture of Ticonderoga. At the head of only 40 of his Spartan comrades he took the fortress on the hill Defiance without losing a man. At the brilliant affair near Bennington, he headed the small division behind a rocks ledge. He kept the enemy at bay until Gen. Stark could form his men to drive back the reinforcement that came up before he could properly dispose of the large number of prisoners he had taken. Mr. Allen died in 1805.
